JOHN JAY VIDEO

John Jay was born in New York City on December 12th, 1745 and died on May 17, 1829. He attended Kings College (now Columbia University) in Manhattan, graduated and was admitted to the bar in 1766.

Jay was a member of the First and Second Continental Congress and served as the President from 1778 to 1779. During and after the American Revolution he also kept peace terms from Great Britain with Jay's Treaty of 1794. In 1779 he was sent as minister plenipotentiary to Spain, where he secured some financial aid, but failed to win recognition for the colonial cause. He was appointed (1781) one of the commissioners to negotiate peace with Great Britain and joined Benjamin Franklin (and more) in Paris.
